Start Planning Your Upcoming Week Before Your Leave for the Weekend

5 o’clock on Friday comes along and everyone is excited about getting the weekend started. However, not planning for the week ahead in the right ways can lead to stress on Saturdays and Sundays. If you want to avoid thinking about the office when you should be enjoying your weekend, you need to think about ways to plan your upcoming week on Friday. Here are some easy ways to make that happen.

Look at the things you’ve accomplished.

First, take stock of your previous week. What did projects did you finish? This will help you remain motivated for the following week. It will also give you a way to see positive results and what successes you had can translate to other work.

Tie up any lose ends.

Before closing time on Friday afternoon be sure to follow up with any pressing emails and phone calls. Is there paperwork that needs to be done? Don’t put this off until Monday or take it home to do over the weekend. Give yourself plenty of uninterrupted time on Friday to get it done.

Create a to-do list for Monday morning.

Next, look at the things that are essential to start next week. Create a to-do list of only three to five things. You will certainly have more work to do, but this list is about your priorities. This will help you focus when you get back to the office after the weekend.

Straighten your desk before you leave.

Never leave a messy work environment for the weekend. You will regret it when you come back to a disaster zone on Monday. Instead, put files away where they belong, organize your in box, and arrange things so they will be easy to find when you need them.

Follow up with your boss.

Lastly, before you head out for the weekend check in with your boss. Let them know where you stand with certain projects and what you plan to do on Monday when you get back in. This will give them peace of mind to know that you are on top of the work so they don’t feel the need to micromanage you.
